Green & Fortune raises the bar again with above London Living Wage commitment

Independent hospitality company Green & Fortune has once again set an example in the hospitality industry by continuing its commitment to paying all employees beyond the London Living Wage. This proactive adjustment was brought in on 1st January and raises starting hourly pay beyond the London Living Wage Foundation's new rate, which is due to be implemented in April.
This move reinforces Green & Fortune’s steadfast dedication to employee wellbeing during a time when rising business costs—including food price inflation and increased national insurance—have placed immense pressure on the hospitality sector. By implementing this pay increase ahead of the standard April deadline, Green & Fortune demonstrates its refusal to compromise when it comes to supporting its people.
Sarah Miller, Managing Director of Green & Fortune, expressed her pride in the company’s efforts to continually back its team, stating: “At Green & Fortune, we appreciate that our teams are facing continued cost-of-living challenges, so we want to ensure that everyone comes to work without the worry of making ends meet. In addition, investing in our employees goes beyond just paying a competitive wage. It’s about creating an environment where our people feel valued, empowered, and supported—financially and professionally. This increase reflects our commitment to our team’s well-being and their long-term success.”
Alongside competitive pay, Green & Fortune has consistently rolled out people-first initiatives. In 2024, the company launched its Talent Seed Programme, a training and development initiative aimed at nurturing the "stars of tomorrow".
The programme includes:
- Mentorship: One-on-one guidance from senior team members.
- Training Sessions: Workshops to hone technical and interpersonal skills.
- Promotion Frameworks: Clear pathways for employees to grow within the company.
After a successful trial, over 20% of participating employees have already progressed into more senior positions—a testament to the programme’s efficacy and Green & Fortune's belief in investing in careers, not just temporary jobs.
This latest commitment is another milestone in Green & Fortune’s mission to set a new standard for the hospitality industry, with initiatives to increase not only employee wellbeing, but retention, engagement and legacy planning.
It follows a series of employee-focused programmes, including the launch of Green & Fortune Supports in 2020, which offered crucial assistance to team members hardest hit by the pandemic through emergency funds, mentorship, weekly meals, training, and re-employment opportunities.
The company is currently working to offer meaningful employment and work experience to local residents, including partnerships with Southwark Works, Step Ahead, Camden Council and Well Grounded.
