Flexible worker company Redwigwam welcomes Budget
UK flexible worker company, Redwigwam, has welcomed Wednesday’s Autumn Budget.
Lorna Davidson, CEO of Redwigwam, said: “These are really busy times and there are lots of pressure being put on companies in lots of different ways, particularly around people.
“As a big employer I was delighted to hear the message on levelling up on skills and salary. The new minimum wage of £9.50 from next April will make a difference.
“In the marketplace at the moment we’re seeing how difficult it is to fill all the vacancies. For example, we know in care at the moment there are 112,000 vacancies so we know it’s more than just an increase in the minimum wage that’s required – it’s about training and development and flexibility and making sure we are treating our staff as well as we possibly can.
“Staffing is also a real issue so I was delighted to hear that in some areas where getting staffing is really difficult such as in retail, hospitality and entertainment that there’s going to be a rates rebate of 50%, which will help.
“We must recognise though that the cost of running these areas is going up and it is affecting the ability to attract great staff. It is good that the Government is looking at visas to bring non-UK workers in, however what we also need is not just highly skilled workers being brought in, but workers who are willing to do the jobs that we need to be done. They are in areas such as warehousing and care so I hope the Government takes that into account.
“It’s an exciting time in the UK and I’m looking forward to carrying on being a big employer next year.”
Redwigwam is a leading temporary work booking platform which serves both workers and hirers across the UK. The company works with some of the biggest blue-chip companies in the UK, including Coca-Cola, Argos, Sodexo, Land Rover, Tesco and Kellogg’s.
