A large NHS organisation is looking to appoint an experienced Health and Safety Officer / Manager.

This is an interim post until the end of March 2021, working full time on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice, guidance and instruction on health and safety, and security management matters to all employees to ensure that the organisation minimises risk, meets its statutory obligations, and achieves high safety and security standards;
  • Assist with current programmes of work to ensure that all health and safety, and security management requirements are managed across all departments and service lines;
  • Undertake health and safety and security inspections/audits of activities/functions and provide timely reports on the above;
  • Promote a health, safety and security culture, ensuring that the complex requirements of relevant legislation and regulation are explained and understood, utilising existing tools to support understanding at all levels;
  • Ensure that any investigations undertaken into reported incidents to the Risk team are of a high standard and provide guidance and assistance to investigators where necessary;
  • Support the implementation of health and safety activities, working within relevant health and safety legislation and Trust strategies;
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers in the investigation of RIDDOR incidents;
  • Advise on safe systems of work, including providing advice on the provision and use of appropriate protective equipment;
  • Support the work to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to create a pro- security culture and that security incidents/breaches are detected and reported.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Experience and related qualifications within the field of Health and Safety within a healthcare environment; (IOSH, NEBOSH, RIDDOR)
  • Hold up to date knowledge of new or impending legislation and any other mandatory NHS instructions relating to area of work.
