The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) touches every citizen in the country at some time in their life. We are the UK Government’s largest public service provider, providing services and support to over 22 million people and managing Whitehall’s biggest annual budget, totalling over £176 billion. At the same time, we are delivering a once in a generation programme of welfare reform. DWP Estates is accountable for the delivery of all aspects of real estate services and the work we do is critical in ensuring the vital work that the Department undertakes is enabled effectively. DWP’s commercial estate is the largest within Government and our diverse national property portfolio of circa 1000 buildings reflects this scale. We are accountable for the service delivery of key real estate services, facilities management and project management either directly or through third party supplier partners. Ultimately, the Department relies on us to provide safe and secure buildings that are fit for purpose and meet the needs of the business. The work you will be undertaking is therefore crucial in us meeting the needs of all those who use our services and who work for us.
As a function, as well as being critical to the Department’s overall response to COVID we are undergoing a major change, introducing a brand-new operating model to transform the way we deliver our estates services to the Department.
The Head of Estates Asset Management is a new role in our team. The post-holder will need to establish our new Asset Management team and set the strategy for planned preventative maintenance with oversight of the lifecycle works strategy, ensuring that the circa 600,000 assets within our estate meet statutory compliance requirements. By working closely with our key supply chain partners, the Head of Estates Asset Management will ensure asset data compliance and drive continuous improvement across the DWP estate, as well as implementing sustainability initiatives to achieve Greening Government Commitment targets and the Government’s 2050 Net Zero Carbon commitment.
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced property professional with a track record of leadership across large, geographically dispersed and mixed age estates. Commercially and contractually aware, you will bring in-depth strategic and operational knowledge of pre-planned preventative maintenance at scale for a range of building asset types ensuring regulatory compliance is achieved throughout the estate. Utilising data and management information, you will be adept at translating strategic objectives into deliverable outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle, promoting efficient service delivery at pace. Capable of prioritising key areas for investment and with strong influencing skills, you will be confident building relationships internally and externally and at the most senior levels. As the leader of a newly formed team, you will provide inspiring leadership, promoting a diverse and inclusive working environment.
This is a challenging role at the heart of a vibrant and ambitious Estates function. If this excites you, we would love to hear from you.
