Purpose of the Job: The Data Centre HVAP Technician is tasked with overseeing and supervising planned and reactive maintenance activities in collaboration with the building Engineering Supervisor and Shift Leader. They will liaise with Engineering management and client personnel to ensure adherence to site policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations. This role involves operating as an Authorised Person, ensuring completion of safety paperwork to high standards and alignment with company policies.
Role Summary:
Ensure routine maintenance is conducted on building plant, equipment, and systems to meet or exceed expectations and agreed service level agreements. Respond promptly to Building Management System alarms and undertake emergency repairs as necessary. Implement and enforce appropriate controls within the Permit to Work systems. Develop and utilize required switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in accordance with Company policies and Safe System of Work (SSOW). Maintain Evaporative Cooling Systems and domestic water systems to comply with the requirements of the L8 standard. Ensure availability of suitable spares for maintenance activities.
Maintain comprehensive maintenance records using REALM task sheets. Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for in-house tasks to ensure adherence to safe working practices. Supervise engineering subcontractors and ensure compliance with contractual commitments and site operating processes. Foster positive working relationships with staff and clients’ staff. Promote a safe and healthy working environment, ensuring compliance with all Company and client site policies and procedures.
Present a professional image of to clients and visitors and uphold excellence in customer service. Commit to personal development and lifelong learning to maintain professional and technical skills. Ensure work packs include required documentation and review subcontractor Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS).
Provide incident support in the event of unplanned incidents or faults on site. HVAP responsibilities are integral to this role.
Experience / Skillset Required:
Manual Handling Training is advantageous. HV Authorisation is essential. Current Wiring Regulations certificate. Level 3 NVQ in associated discipline.
Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification. Experience in real-time incident/fault management in a business-critical environment. Demonstrable experience in a similar role within a similar organisation. Sound understanding and experience of meeting health and safety obligations regarding maintenance activities. Excellent verbal communication skills. Numerate and literate. Demonstrate diligence in safe working practices for both themselves and occupants of the premises. Self-motivated, with a high level of personal integrity.
Able to work well both independently and as part of a team. Organised, with the ability to prioritise and deliver within high-pressure environments.
Courteous and presentable, with exposure to clients at all levels. Flexible regarding working hours. PASMA & IPAF certification preferred. Knowledge of multiple interlinked systems (Fire, PMS BMS). Ownership and accountability mindset.
